Sound choices: 10 easy tips for more sustainable music streaming for fans

The cloud is ultimately physical, and where fans can make the biggest difference is by holding onto their devices for longer.

Delay your next upgrade, purchased refurbished tech, repair rather than replace and more great tips are available now on the Music Climate Pact website.

The Music Climate Pact and Deezer teamed up to create Sound Choices – 10 easy tips for fans to reduce their impact while listening to digital music services.

The top tips were developed by the Music Climate Pact’s Digital Working Group, co-chaired by Helen Smith (executive chair, IMPALA), Caroline Hansen (head of operations, Warp Records) and Lewis Jamieson (CEO, Music Declares Emergency).

Julie’s Bicycle has been a Supporter member of the Music Climate Pact since its launch, and was one of the environmental experts on the Digital Working Group helping to pull together and sense-check the top tips.

The Music Climate Pact overall is working to reduce the environmental impact of recorded music focusing on vinyl production, digital music distribution, and climate literacy for the people working in the sector. While industry and streaming services should rightly be taking the lead on tackling the impacts of digital music distribution, this resource emerged from wanting to give fans the information they often ask for about how they can play their part.
