Our sustainability commitment
Our power lies in what we inspire.
As a small organisation, our greatest impact comes not from our own footprint, but from the momentum we spark across the creative and cultural sector.
Environmental protection and sustainability lie at the very core of Julie’s Bicycle’s work and charitable objectives. As we aim to support individuals and organisations to build knowledge and confidence to take climate action, we hold ourselves to the same high standards.
While we are a small organisation with a modest footprint, we’re committed to understanding, measuring and reducing our environmental impact while sharing that journey transparently.
Our footprint
We’re currently undertaking a review of our internal environmental data. We will publish our latest footprint here soon.
In the meantime, to get an understanding of our practices, you can find our current Sustainability Policy outlined and available for download below.
our environmental
policy
at a glance
Our internal policies guide how we reduce our impact across day-to-day operations. This includes:
- Office use: We collaborate with Somerset House to reduce energy and water use, and maximise recycling
- Travel: We avoid travel where possible, follow a no-fly policy within the UK, and use trains for European and international travel, where possible
- Digital impact: We choose sustainable hosting and reduce unnecessary data usage
- Procurement: We source ethically, prioritising sustainable suppliers for IT, office goods and events
- Food and events: All JB-run events are vegetarian or vegan, and we use a comprehensive ‘green rider’ when engaging venues
- Finance: We use ethical banking and pensions providers
- Staff: We offer sustainability training and foster a cooperative, inclusive working environment
How we measure our environmental impact
We assess our operations using the same frameworks and tools we recommend to others. Our environmental reporting covers energy, water, waste, travel, digital infrastructure and procurement.
We’re part of networks like the Carbon Accounting Alliance, collaborating with organisations across and beyond the cultural sector to refine how environmental data is measured and acted on.
We also align our internal reporting with our broader mission, prioritising transparency, accountability and justice.
Our future commitments
We’re always looking for new ways to improve. In the year ahead, we are working to:
- Pilot new approaches to low-carbon digital and communications practices
- Deepen staff engagement in sustainability training and climate justice
- Strengthen data monitoring and public reporting
