Today marks the launch of Heritage Adapts! – a major international campaign uniting the heritage sector to commit to climate adaptation.
As a Leadership Partner, Julie’s Bicycle is proud to join Preserving Legacies, the National Geographic Society, and a founding coalition of over 100 organisations and stewards from the global North and South in this monumental effort.
The campaign’s critical mission is clear: ensure at least 3,000 sites and practices commit to locally led climate adaptation action by 2030.
The urgent need for action
Climate change poses an unprecedented threat to heritage worldwide, endangering one in three natural sites and one in six cultural sites globally.
However, heritage is not merely a victim; it is a vital source of community resilience and generational ingenuity – a well of time-tested solutions for adapting to a changing climate.
Heritage Adapts! is designed to close the gap in climate funding and policy by mobilising action on the ground. This campaign has already been recognised by the UN’s climate agency as a Plan to Accelerate Solutions, supporting the Global Goal on Adaptation.
Take the pledge
At the heart of Heritage Adapts! is the collective pledge for locally led adaptation action by 2030. We urge all heritage stewards, organisations, and institutions to take part and help strengthen community resilience worldwide.
By taking the pledge, you gain instant access to the online community of action platform, a collaborative space that makes the adaptation process accessible, no matter your starting point.
The platform provides:
- A self-paced programme that guides you through every stage of locally led adaptation, from assessing risk to developing a plan and taking action.
- A global peer network where you can connect with others for support and guidance.
- Localised climate data and training.
