The third edition of the Show Must Go On (SMGO) report was launched last night at the House of Commons, marking a major milestone for climate action in the UK’s outdoor live events sector.
Published by Vision for Sustainable Events in partnership with JB, the report presents the most comprehensive picture to date of the environmental impact of outdoor events and sets out a Climate Transition Plan targeting a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030.
Built through unprecedented industry-wide collaboration, Edition 3 provides updated impact benchmarks, sector-wide analysis, and practical guidance for organisers, suppliers and policymakers. It identifies pathways for reducing typical event carbon footprints by up to 37%, alongside a set of coordinated policy recommendations to help unlock deeper emissions cuts.The launch brought together sector leaders, sustainability experts and policymakers to underline the scale of ambition across the UK live events industry, which generates £1.7 billion annually and plays a significant role in the wider music economy.
